Born and raised in the small town of Riverton, Wyoming. Grew up out on the reservation, so it was always very secluded, and I kept to myself through most of my early school years.
I was always into music, but never really INTO music. It wasn't until I went to Red Hot Chili Peppers show in Casper, WY when I was 12, that I actually started listening and analyzing modern music. I can easily say that Californication was my earliest musical obsession, with a recorded tape that my brother gave me, I learned the album front to back, and today I still regard it as one of the best albums ever made.
In my earlier days, I was also into playing keyboard. Just playing anything, making noise. And my parents were very supportive of me and music, as my dad would often teach me things on the keyboard. It was during my early years that I realized that I wanted to play music for a living.
So, we moved into town, and I realized when I was about 14, that in this small town, liking the kind of music that I liked, that I was not going to be able to pursue my dream of becoming a musician by playing the keyboard. So I picked up the guitar. It was within months that my cousin Joe had begun playing as well.
I remember that the only guitar we could afford at the time was a cheap ass piece of shit Wal*Mart guitar at the time. I would play the shit out of it, to the point that it would break, and I would have to take it back and get a new one, I believe this happened twice. At this time I was in High School, and I was in Guitar Class, and I had talked my parents into buying me an AXL player deluxe that was on sale at the local music store. The thing didn't tune well, didn't STAY in tune well, and the neck was warped within months.
So I spent a couple years playing that thing, and jamming with the other music geeks and metal heads. It was during the axl's reign that I began jamming with Robbie, Tom, Joe, and Travis, along with some other friends. (Like Wyatt, with whom we formed BRM...) I think it was freshmen year that we began conning the music director into letting us use the school's equipment and practice room, and after school on tuesday's me, Tom, and a variety of others would go into the room and make some noise. (Which usually resulted in Mr. A coming into the room and telling tom to stop beating the hell out of the drums and actually play them... yeah, fuck that...)
After a couple years of doing this, Tom got his own drumset, a tama Swingstar 5-piece. Due to this, a lineup was solidified, and we moved from the bandroom to Tom's family house. After we got some actual amplifiers, we moved to Robbie's Basement. And we finally agreed on the name Piraya.
From here we played Zakk Wylde's "Sold My Soul" for a local talent show, which we lost to some tap dancers, but they were our friends so it was OK. We then started putting together some other shows in the area with some other local musicians. We were able to get a pow-wow PA from Tom's parents, which we used to practice through. (Which by the way beat the hell out of the 15-watt bass amp we WERE using to amplify rob's vocals!)
So, from there we are here, two years later, on the brink of releasing our debut album "Bleeding Tombstone of a Pitless Grave". Set to go on our first tour, if our agent will call us back...
Other than the band there isn't a whole lot that I do. I spend alot of time with Cassi, and other than that, I am with friends, playing guitar, writing music, or uhh, looking for a job that doesn't suck, which i doubt is gonna happen...
But I believe that everything will work out if we let it...
